2018 at YES2Know!

Lots happened at YES2Know in 2018, so we're here to give you an update about everything you may have missed.

In 2018, YES2Know Vancouver Island carried on its work in the community, while also exploring some new innovative ways to support students. Established programs such as Being T.R.U.E., Am I Good Enough?, Cycles, and Y2K Summits continued to provide students with learning opportunities across Central Vancouver Island, reaching nearly 3000 students. For the first time, Ucluelet Secondary School partnered with us to bring a Y.E.S. 2 Know Summit to the West-Coast community of Ucluelet, BC. The summit brought together students in Grade 8-12 with community members such as the Nuu-Chah-Nulth First Nations and the Ucluelet RCMP.

YES2Know also expanded its programming this year with two new initiatives around healthy relationships. The first program titled the ABCs of a Healthy Relationship is slated to begin piloting in early 2019 as a Grade 9 in-class

presentation. The program explores themes including respect, consent and

communication in relationships through open dialogue with students. The ABCs of

a Healthy Relationship will also draw students’ attention to the role social media

and technology play in intimate photo sharing, “sexting”, cyberbullying and harassment. The second program acts as an interactive introduction to the ABCs of a Healthy Relationship for Grade 8 students attending Y.E.S. 2 Know Summits. The Healthy Relationship Circuit becomes a component of the summit where students engage in various learning activities around relationships.

We're also proud to announce that earlier this year we revealed updated branding for our organization and event logo. As some have probably noticed, the updated logo has begun appearing on items such as event clothing, and promotional materials. Branding also played a part in another new initiative. This year, YES2Know took steps to expand its online presence and build new ways to reach its audience. In addition to social media accounts on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, YES2Know also created a website and YouTube channel.

The bottom line is YES2Know is continually evolving to meet the needs of students and communities better. Both through the programs we deliver and develop, and the new things we try outside of our events to keep connected year-round. Together, we hope to continue having a positive impact on students across Vancouver Island now and into the future.
